Meeting Your Sales Quota For The Year

It can be difficult at times to work in sales, as you will not only have to do a good job selling your product to customers, but there is also a good chance you will be under pressure to reach certain performance quotas for your company - as far as how much (and how quickly, and how efficiently, and even how profitably!) you are selling; of course, sales quotas are simply part of working in sales, but if you are wanting to eliminate some of the stress of working in sales and trying to reach your quotas, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

First off, you should always make an effort to think of your quota as something that is supposed to be hit in half the time of what is actually supposed to be hit; for instance, if you are supposed to reach a certain sales goal in a year, you should make it your goal to try and reach that sales goal in six months instead, as doing this will set higher goals for you than simply what the company is giving you, and even though you may end up falling short of these personal goals you have set, they are likely to still help you reach the quota assigned by the company long before the set date!

A lot of people end up getting overwhelmed when it comes to sales because they look at the big picture of the sales numbers they are supposed to hit, which can seem like an insurmountable task, but a better way to look at the sales numbers you are trying to hit is on a day-to-day basis; this does not even mean that you should assign yourself a certain number of sales you should try to hit each day, as anyone who has ever worked in sales knows that your sales will fluctuate from each day, but it simply means you should narrow your focus to "taking care of what you can take care of each day."

And lastly, recognize the fact that you are likely to get ahead of schedule when you incorporate these two approaches into your sales work, and as you get ahead of schedule, it will be easy for complacency to set in. Protect yourself against complacency by continually expanding your goals, pushing yourself to accomplish more and more in sales than you were aiming to accomplish before!

Tips For Emphasizing Your Message On A Billboard Ad

Billboard advertising is one of the most effective ways for you to spread the word about your business, but as effective as billboard advertising can be, one problem many people run into in their pursuit of effective billboard advertising is that they do not know exactly what they should do in order to emphasize their message on a billboard; after all, as beneficial as effective billboard advertising can be, ineffective billboard advertising can amount to a whole pile of wasted money!

When it comes to billboard advertising, one of the big things you should realize is that people driving on the highway have a lot of things to pay attention to, and your billboard ad will have to catch the eye in order to be effective; there are different ways by which you can go about trying to catch a driver's eye, but usually, the best way to do so is to use a lot of white space on the billboard. This might be different from what some people imagine is the best solution (after all, some people think lots of loud colors is the best way to draw attention to the billboard itself!), but there are several reasons why white space on a billboard is so beneficial.

Of course, one of the main reasons why white space on a billboard is great - especially in comparison to having a mishmash of bright colors instead - is that another key to emphasizing your message on a billboard is that the person seeing the billboard should be able to grasp the message of the billboard immediately; in addition to using a lot of white space, use an image that will immediately catch the eye of someone driving by on the highway, and that will convey an idea of exactly what you are trying to say on the billboard itself.

And of course, you will want to use some words on the billboard, but try to be as judicious as you can with the number of words you use; with the words you use, you should clarify exactly what message you are trying to convey with the image - and then (most importantly of all!), you should make the name of your company prominent and easy to read, as this will cause the name of your company to stick in someone's mind!

Key Website Mistakes To Avoid

One thing that there is a good chance you will be spending time focusing on as you build a website for search engine marketing purposes, or as a means to promote your business, is search engine optimization, and all the little things that go into this; while search engine optimization is great, however, it can sometimes cause people to lose sight of the important things they can do for their readers - as opposed to for search engines - in order to ensure maximum impact.

One issue a lot of sites run into - especially sites that are far too focused on search engine optimization - is that they end up creating content that is too complex for their average reader; although setting yourself up as an "expert" in your field will be a big part of having a successful website, this does not mean overcomplicating things - and in fact, setting yourself up as an expert should mean aiming to simplify complicated ideas to a point where anyone can understand them!

Search engine optimization also has a tendency to cause people to work more quickly than they would if they were working strictly for users, and this can lead to a website that is full of grammatical errors, and that is difficult to understand as a result; as you build content on your site, focus on making sure this content is clean and polished before you publish it.

And finally, realize that if you are failing to convert your visitors into customers, it really will not matter how many visitors you attract to your site; have a plan in place for converting your visitors into customers, and your search engine optimization efforts will become a lot more useful!

Even without getting in your own way in the process building a website can be difficult; make sure you hold onto these tips as you build your website, and you will be able to ensure that your SEO efforts - and the visitors who come your way as a result - are not going to waste.

Releasing Press Releases To Help Your Business

Figuring out all the little things you can do to bring more customers your way and to give you an edge over your competitors will be one of the biggest keys to success when you run a business; of course, the list of "little things" you can tackle in order to accomplish this is extensive, and perhaps you even have some things of your own that you have found work for promoting your business - but one thing that you may have been overlooking is the value of releasing press releases to help your business.

The first thing you need to know about press releases is that you cannot simply release one for every little thing that goes on with your business; however, if your business is launching some sort of new product - or, even if your business is not launching something new, but something noteworthy has happened in the area of business you operate within, and you are able to write a press release regarding this new development, and can put the press release under the name of your business - this will give you a great opportunity to release a press release.

Now, understanding some of the finer points about writing a press release will also be important; before you write a press release yourself, you should take the time to read through a number of other press releases to get a feel for the manner in which they are worded and the typical length and pace of these press releases. And of course, you should not shy away from hiring someone else to write the press release for you if you are not confident you can do a great job; after all, people will associate your press release with your business, and considering that it only costs about $50 to hire a professional to write a press release for you, it can be well worth the money!

And finally, it will be important that you release the press release in the right place; if your press release only applies to those in your area, there is no need to release it nationwide, but if people everywhere will be interested in the content of the press release, you will be perfectly fine releasing it nationwide, and can gain some extra exposure in the process!

What You Need To Know In Order To Do Your Own SEO

One thing that will be extremely important when you are using search engine optimization in order to propel your website higher in search engine rankings will be that you understand all the basic things you need in order to succeed in search engine optimization; after all, if you are doing your own SEO work, you may not lose any money if your results are poor, but you will lose time – and when you are running your own business, time can be just as valuable as money!

Just as you would if you were advertising in a more traditional manner, it will be important that you know exactly who you are targeting in your search engine optimization efforts; by understanding who you are targeting, it will be much easier for you to know what keywords to use, as you will be able to gain a greater understanding of what keywords your target demographic is likely to search in order to find you.

Once you know who you plan to target, you will also be able to start narrowing down your options of the best keywords to focus on; in picking keywords, you will want to take the time to make sure these keywords are both highly searched and low in the way of competition, as this will give you the greatest chance of moving higher up search engine rankings pages, and of bringing yourself new clients and customers as a result.

And finally, you should know that your website itself will be one of the most important things in your search engine optimization efforts; because so much of SEO is focused on the keywords you are using, many people fail to also pay attention to what will happen once people arrive at their website, but realize that you will still need an appealing website that provides good information so that those who visit your website will eventually become customers.

It can take a bit of time to learn all the search engine optimization basics you will need to know, and to implement all these little things, but when you take the right approach, with this knowledge in mind, you will eventually see results, and your business will continue expanding because of this!

Tips For Making The Most Of Your Work Travel

Some people see "work travel" as an inconvenience, while others see it as something enjoyable; regardless of which of the two categories you fall into, however, it will be beneficial for you to know the steps that you can take in order optimize your work travel. After all, if you have to travel anyway - instead of just being stuck complaining the whole time about how you are having to travel for work - you might as well enjoy it!

Establishing friendships with the people you will be working with during your time away is one of the best ways to enjoy your work travel; when you do this, the week of travel will feel a lot more like "hanging out with friends" than like a week of work!

On the other hand, some people are typically introverted in their everyday life, instead of being extroverted; if this is the case for you, your work travel can be one of the best times for you to recharge by spending time alone, as you will be in an unfamiliar place, with a quiet hotel room in which you can relax and unwind.

You should also try exploring some of the surrounding areas whenever you find yourself doing some work travel; while most people think of this when they are traveling to a "cool" city, they fail to recognize that there are plenty of "cool" things to explore no matter where they are! Before you go on your trip, search around to find out what the local attractions are; consider going to a well-regarded restaurant in the area, or visit a baseball game or basketball game, or find out where the locals hang out so you can get a feel for the local life!

If you are the sort of person who does not enjoy traveling for work, following these tips might not make you suddenly love it - but these tips will go a long way in making work travel a whole lot more bearable!

How To Have Fun At Work

Plenty of people "dream" of having a job that they truly enjoy, and one of the reasons why they "dream" of this is because the job they actually work does not fit this bill. But while it is true that there will be things about your job you will inevitably not enjoy, this would also be the case even if you landed your "dream" job, and once you realize this, it is easy to also start realizing that you can have fun in whatever job you work, as long as you decide to have fun and enjoy it - and in fact, you will also start to find that the more fun you have at work (the more you enjoy work!), the more productive you will be!

Having fun at work can be as simple as trying to start building relationships with your coworkers; lots of people go to work, do their work, and go home, without ever making an effort to get to know those around them, but when you become friends with your coworkers, going to work and seeing them each day will become much more enjoyable.

Having fun at work can also be as simple as doing things at work that you enjoy; for some people, this is listening to music, for others it is taking short breaks to work on a crossword puzzle, and for others it is simply getting up every once in a while and going for a walk.

And finally, having fun at work can often be as simple as working hard; when you make it your goal to truly work hard, you will start to feel much more fulfilled with your job, and this will in turn make your job a whole lot more enjoyable.

It is certainly easy to complain about your current job while you wait for that "dream job" to come your way, but it is nearly as easy to turn your current job into everything you wish for that dream job to be - and it is also much more rewarding!

Using Groupon To Grow Your Business

These days, it seems like Groupon is everywhere – with people always talking about it, with ads for Groupon always showing up online, and with many of your favorite restaurants or shopping stops offering great deals through Groupon – and you might have started wondering how you can use Groupon yourself if you own a small business of your own. Signing up for and running a deal through Groupon is really a very simple process, but setting up your deal in such a way that it is successful is a bit more complicated, so make sure you read this guide to help you get started!

Some people run a deal through Groupon and make the mistake of offering people something that is a “throwaway item,” but realize that it is extremely important to offer something that people actually want; even if you only break even through the Groupon deal you are offering, this is still advantageous, as you will be bringing in new customers – many of whom will keep coming back!

Being fully aware of what day the Groupon deal is going up on the Groupon website will also be very important, as there will be many people who want to call with questions; be prepared to spend the day by the phone the first couple days that the ad is up so that you can answer any questions that come in and can keep the purchases rolling!

And if you have other deals in place as well when customers start coming in to use their Groupon coupon, it will go a long way in securing these new customers as regular customers; come up with some deals that will appeal to customers, and advertise them in your store, as this will stick in people's heads and make them much more likely to continue coming back so they can keep getting “great deals” from you!

Help for You to Develop a Marketing Plan

Often the hardest part of running a successful business is developing a marketing plan. Business ownership is filled with challenges but marketing is probably the toughest. Each business needs to develop a marketing plan unique to themselves. This means that there are no set plans that business owners can follow when developing their own. Guidelines to be followed are out there though.

Tim Berry and Doug Wilson have written On Target The Book on Marketing Plans. Each marketing plan that is developed tends to have a few parts that are common in them and together the authors point them out. They wrote the book in order to help business owners accomplish their marketing goals through a well developed plan. It is written with the understanding that most business owners are not marketing experts.

Even if there are business owners out there that are marketing experts, this book can still offer some help. Different methods are available to market businesses that most people are familiar with. Online, print, and television advertising are three that everyone is familiar with. Developing a plan that will help carry out marketing through these channels is the focus that Berry and Wilson spend time writing on.

For a marketing plan to be successful you can build around a few different aspects. How well you research your market is how you can build part of your success. From there you can develop a strategy and settle on what tactics to use. Keep your budget in mind when you are doing all of this planning as well.

A business owner often finds it hard to take advice from others even if they have been successful. They didn't start their own business so they still had to listen to others. But generally the most successful businesses are those that are open to advice and guidance. This is even more true when it comes to marketing. The process of developing a rock solid marketing plan can be completed with the guidance of Berry and Wilson.

How To Make Your Website Easy To Use

Regardless of whether you are running a website as a means to promote your business, or as a way in which you can try to make a bit of extra money, one important thing will be that you are making sure to pay attention to the principles of search engine optimization; at the same time, however, it is easy to become so wrapped up in your search engine optimization efforts that you forget about all the other things about running a website that are important - including making your website easy to use!

In making your website easy to use, the first thing you should focus on is providing an easy way for your readers to share your site with others; when you include links throughout your site that make it easy for people to share content through such areas as Twitter, Digg, Google Plus, and facebook, you will increase the backlinks you create, and will increase the traffic that comes your way as well!

As you attempt to make your website easy to use, the next thing that will be important for you to focus on is making it easy for people to navigate your site; on your site, you should include a search bar that enables people to search for specific content on your site, and categorize your posts in such a way that it will be easy for visitors to seek out something specific.

And in making your website "easy" for users, perhaps the most important thing of all you can do is make it easy for your visitors to get lost in your site; when you include plenty of links within the content of each post you write, readers will click on these links, and continue sinking deeper and deeper into your site! And it just about goes without saying that the deeper a reader goes into your site (and the more time they spend on your site), the more likely they are to return to your site again and again - and to bring others with them as well!

Tips For Making A Living - From Home!

If you have ever thought that you might like to make a living online, you are part of a very big club, as this is something a lot of people dream of doing; at the same time, however, many people who desire to make a living online never actually take any steps toward this dream - and those who do take steps toward this dream often end up discovering that it is far more difficult to bring to life than they originally imagined it would be.

If you are hoping to do what you can to make a living online, the first thing you need to understand is the importance of traffic; the best way to look at traffic is as "currency," as - quite frankly - the more traffic you have on your site, the more money you will have the ability to make, and the best thing of all about traffic is that your potential to gain traffic is virtually uncapped!

The two most important, fundamental things you can do to get traffic to your site are A) focusing on search engine optimization on your site, in order to put your site in a position where it shows up highly on search engine rankings pages, and B) going to where the traffic is - which means spending lots of time on websites and in forums that pertain to your site, and interacting with others on these websites and in these forums.

And finally, the biggest "extra credit" thing you can do to get people to your site - and to make money as a result - is to be active in social media; when you have a strong social media platform - and when you make it easy for people to share your website and your content through their social media platforms, you will gain tons of additional traffic!

The best thing about making money online is that you can begin the process even while working a full-time job - and once you start making money in your efforts, you can start transitioning out of your full-time job, and can begin to make a full-time living from the comfort of your own home!

Things You Need To Realize For Making Money Online

The idea of making money online is something that appeals to a great number of people, as it is typically believed that working from home would be a perfect way to make a living; after all - the thinking goes - working from home would enable you to make practically uncapped income while setting your own schedule, wearing whatever you want, and leading a much more relaxing life. While all these things can be true, however, it is also true that making money online can be difficult - unless you know the right things that you will need to keep in mind.

The first thing you need to realize about making money online is that traffic on your website will be the biggest key. When you have a lot of traffic coming your way, your opportunities for making money online will be huge - but when you are unable to get traffic to come your way, you will have a hard time indeed with your quest to make money online.

The next thing you need to understand is that the biggest key to bringing traffic to your site will be getting a firm grasp on search engine optimization; when you are able to appeal to search engines, you will be able to achieve the high ranking you desire - and this high ranking will translate to high traffic numbers.

And finally, you need to start realizing that there are things you can do beyond search engine optimization in order to get people to your site. For instance, you can visit blogs and forums that are frequented by people who will appreciate your site, or you can become active on social media, or you can write off-site articles - and these ideas are just the tip of the iceberg!

Once you realize the importance of traffic, and then start figuring out what you can do to get traffic to your site, you will finally find yourself in a position where you can make serious money online - and can start living that enviable life you have dreamed of!

Tips For Turning A Mistake At Work Into A Positive

It is not any fun to make a mistake at work, but if you are at work as often as most people are, mistakes are often inevitable whether you want to make them or not - and while mistakes at work can certainly be a source of frustration, they can also be turned into a positive; by simply understanding a few small things you should do when you make a mistake at work, you can make these mistakes a lot less terrible!

Before you start taking steps to turn the mistake you made into a positive for yourself, you should take whatever steps you can to correct the mistake; a lot of people will make a mistake at work, get upset about it, and then try to figure out how they can do better next time, but they miss the all-important step in the middle of figuring out what they can do to clean up the mess created by the mistake!

Once you have taken whatever steps you can to clean up the mistake itself, it will be time to start turning the mistake into a positive as best you can, and the first step to this is identifying what caused the mistake in the first place; once you have a clear picture of what caused the mistake to occur, you will be better equipped to avoid the mistake next time around.

And lastly, become aware of the fact that you may have to "face the music" as a result of your mistake, and when this happens, it is easy to make excuses or to shift blame elsewhere, but rather than making excuses, get in the habit of taking whatever correction you must take, then move on from the mistake - proving with your actions and with your performance that you have turned things around!

It is inevitable that you will make a mistake at work at one point or another, no matter how hard you may work to do a perfect job - and regardless of whether the mistake is major or minor, you can keep these tips in mind to know how to turn it into a positive when it occurs!

Tips For Making Your Way As An Entrepreneur

If you are an entrepreneur, and are similar to the majority of other entrepreneurs, one of your primary motivations for starting on this path was probably the thought that you could eventually make far more money than you could make at a conventional job, all while having a lot more flexibility and perhaps even working fewer hours down the road; what most people find, however, is that this is far from the reality they end up living in as they get their entrepreneurial efforts off the ground - and part of the reason for this is that they have never quite figured out the approach that will enable them to get the most out of their efforts.

The first thing you will want to make sure you are focusing on, in order to optimize your entrepreneurial efforts, is figuring out how to market yourself and your business better; succeeding in business is all about getting the word out there, and your means for doing this can range from paying for advertising to partnering with other businesses to using search engine optimization online!

In addition to making sure you are figuring out the creative things you can do to start getting the word out there to a greater extent, you should also start looking at the things you can potentially do to increase sales; realize that "sales" - in any area of entrepreneurial efforts - will largely come down to how well you are able to "sell" yourself or your product, and there are plenty of creative things you can do to increase your effectiveness in this area.

And finally, start looking at the way you spend your time, and figure out what you can do differently to get more out of your efforts in less time invested! Once you are able to combine a creative approach in this area with a fully-realized strategy for getting your name and your efforts out there and for "selling" yourself and your product, you will find that your level of success is rising higher than ever before.

Tips For Drawing Readers To Your Website

If you have started a website - regardless of whether it is for business or just for fun - one of the big things will be drawing readers to your site. After all, there is not much of a point in running a website if it has no readers - and it is not very likely that readers will simply "happen upon" a site! If you want to build your website, you have to learn how to get the word out there; and no matter the kind of site you are running, the principles remain the same.

The first step of creating a website that will draw readers is to make sure the design of your website is appealing. You want to create a place where readers will want to come and hang out - a place they will not want to leave. You will need to hire someone who knows what they are doing in order to create this sense - or you will have to learn how to build this sense yourself!

You also need to make sure you have content on the site that will not only be useful to readers, but will appeal to them also. Even for a business website, "useful information" is not enough to keep readers around; the information must also be presented in an appealing manner! Early on, you should not worry about gaining readers, but should instead worry about building up content, as you will need content built up. The site will be ready when readers start to come if you take the time early on to focus on adding as much content as you can every day.

Once you have structured a website that is appealing and have started to load it with content, you will finally be ready to attract readers. The best way to attract readers is to create content that will encourage your early readers to share the page with others. This can be anything from funny, engaging stories to videos your readers will want to share to contests that people will have to visit the website if they want to enter. You will start to see your website grow and grow as others begin to do all the work for you; and once you reach this point, your only job will be to make sure you keep loading the site with content!

Marketing Your Business Effectively

As a business owner, you might have heard it said that the most important thing you can do with marketing is to find something that works, but honestly, there is a step before this: you first have to make the effort to at least find something! Too many businesses ultimately fail because they have failed to try to market themselves in any way at all. If you want to remain in business, you have to make sure you understand how to market yourself; once you understand how you can market your business, it is not difficult at all. You can watch your business blossom once you are able to identify a marketing strategy (or a handful of marketing strategies) that you enjoy running, and that work effectively.

As you are reading this article on the internet, you might want to consider the amount of time you spend on the internet, and also consider how much time your customers and potential customers spend on the internet. From this realization, you can conclude that the internet is a veritable gold mine when it comes to marketing. With ads on the internet, you can often customize them to reach the exact audience that will be good for your ad, and you can cultivate high visibility and reach a broad audience. What's more, with pay-per-click advertising, you can ensure that you only pay for an ad when someone shows an interest. With pay-per-click ads, you will get some of the best return on investment you can find with any marketing tools.

You can also keep all your money in your pocket and still advertise on the internet! Especially if your business already has an established presence and a recognizable name, you can use facebook and Twitter to create greater awareness. Each of these social networking platforms are free to use, and once you understand how to use them effectively, they can go a long way in helping you to spread the word about your business.

Finally, you can use the internet through email. Email marketing is one of the most effective marketing methods, and most programs for auto-responder technology are relatively inexpensive for the results you will achieve.

Without marketing, your business has no chance, and without good, marketing your business has very little chance. Figure out the marketing method that works for you, and then give it all your energy!

Answering The Question: Do I Need An Advanced Degree In Business?

Because the business landscape is so competitive these days - and because there are fewer jobs out there than there used to be - lots of people are discovering that it is nearly necessary to have a degree in order to find a job, but a lot of people are also discovering that they not only need a degree, but they need an advanced degree in order to land the job they want; while an advanced degree can certainly come in handy, however, it will also cost another couple years and several thousand more dollars - and because of this, it will be important that you understand whether an advanced degree is the right choice for you.

One thing you should realize is that much of your training for any job will come on the job itself, which means that much of what you learn in college - both in graduate and undergraduate studies - will go out of the window as soon as you get hired; for the most part, your formal studies will give you a foundation of knowledge and information that will help you in your career, and they will give you that all-important degree, but what they will rarely give you is the tools you will need for the job itself.

If you hope to work as a manager at a large corporation some day, the time and money you spend earning an advanced degree will probably be well worth it, as you will greatly increase your chances of getting one such job.

But plenty of people continue on in their schooling beyond their undergraduate studies, in spite of the fact that their desire is to one day start a successful business of their own; if you have thought that you want to start your own business after school, you should realize that going further into debt (and spending more time) to earn that graduate degree will probably not help you much at all!

The question of whether or not you need an advanced degree in business cannot be answered with a simple "yes" or "no," as the answer is different for each person; once you figure out what you hope to do after college, you will be better equipped to determine whether you need an advanced degree - and then, you can begin chasing these goals you have!

How To Increase The Scope Of Your Blog

Whether you are trying to use a blog to promote your business, a creative project you are working on, or to make money through the blog itself, one thing that will be important is that you understand the things you can do to increase the scope of your blog; after all, a few months of work on your blog will either reveal to you that a blog can be a tremendous tool or that a blog can be a big waster of time - and which of these your own blog turns out to be will depend largely upon what you are able to do to help your blog along.

The first thing you need to realize about a blog is that content is king; a lot of people spend time focusing on search engine optimization in order to get more people to their site, and they fail to realize that they will only truly optimize their traffic when they are giving visitors content that is worth their time, as such content will make it more likely that these visitors will return again, and will make it more likely that these visitors will share the site with others they know, helping to spread the word throughout their own networks.

This is not to say that search engine optimization is not useful, of course, as no one will end up on your site to see your good content if you are not showing up in search engines; because of this, you will want to take the time to study and understand all the basics of search engine optimization, and to put these things to use as you continue to develop your website.

And one of the best things you can do if you want to stir up visitors for your site is to make sure you are active on others' websites, as it will be much easier to increase the visibility of your own website if you increase your visibility on others' websites; try to comment frequently - adding useful and insightful thoughts on pertinent blogs - as often as you can, and this will greatly increase the success of your own website.

The more efforts you exert on increasing the scope of your blog, the more success you will find, until your blog becomes a great tool for you, and for whatever it is you are hoping to use it for!

How To Take Care Of Your Fountain Pen

Owning a pen was a thing of beauty back in the day; back before the advent of ballpoint pens, fountain pens were the rule of the day, and everyone not only knew how to take care of their fountain pens, but they also had a healthy adoration and respect for the fountain pen they owned. While fountain pens are certainly not a necessity these days, there are still many people – either because they are collectors, or simply because they prefer to write with a truly grand writing instrument – who prefer to use fountain pens, and while you can get a great fountain pen for under one hundred dollars, this investment will do nothing for you if you do not know the proper way to take care of your pen.

image

The very first thing you need to make sure you know about your fountain pen is that you should store it upright (with the nib facing upward); if you store your pen with the nib (the writing portion) pointing down, the ink will have a tendency to coagulate – or clog – in the nib, which will make the pen rather useless.

One of the reasons many people derive great pleasure from writing with a fountain pen is that they write much more smoothly – with far less strain on the hand and arm – than does a ballpoint pen; when you write with a fountain pen, however, make sure you remember that they write more smoothly, as pressing down too hard while writing with your fountain pen will ruin the nib.

And of course, cleaning your fountain pen periodically will be important; generally speaking, you should rinse out your fountain pen after every two refills of ink – running cold water (not hot, as this can ruin the nib as well!) through the inside of the pen and allowing it to dry for a few hours before filling it with ink again.

When you take care of your fountain pen with the proper approach, you will be able to write the way people used to be able to write – with a priceless instrument that required attention and care, and that paid the user back with hours of pleasurable writing!

Why Do Small Businesses Fail?

Most American small businesses end in failure, despite the fact that many people dream of one day running a successful small business of their own. In fact, less than 5% of small businesses are still in action just 10 years down the road from their initial startup date. There are a number of reasons why small businesses fail, and by making yourself aware of these reasons you will be better able to avoid them yourself.

Poor location: If you have a small business, chances are you will probably have a storefront, and location will be important. Lots of people jump the gun on starting their small business because they are so excited and filled with anticipation. While they should be waiting for the "right location," they instead going with whatever becomes available, neglecting the fact that they will likely remain in that location for as long as their business remains alive. Another reason people often take a poor location is because it is less expensive; but it is worth paying the extra money to be in a good location!

Saving money: "Saving money" on a location is not the only way small businesses try to save money early on. Lots of small businesses hurt themselves in the long run by saving money in the present on presentation or creation. But you have to spend money in creating and presenting your product if you want people to spend money on the product itself!

Name recognition: People are already familiar with the big brand names, and this is one reason why they continue to draw customers. When people know a product, they are more likely to feel comfortable using it; this means that small businesses need to do what they can to create name recognition. You can use advertising, promotions, an online presence, or even a combination of the above to start stirring up name recognition.

If your dream is to run a small business that sticks around for a long time, it is certainly a dream you can achieve. By learning the mistakes most small businesses make, and by making sure you avoid them, you can make this dream come true!

Tips For Spreading The Word About Your Business

One thing you should acknowledge to yourself, if you have your own small business, is the fact that just about every well-known business - even the ones that are household names - pour lots of time and money into advertising; the reason for this, of course, is that spreading the word about a business is an important component of the success of that business, and if this is the case for the household names, it should be the case even more so for you!

When you are making an effort to spread the word about your business, the first place you should look to is the advertisements that cost money; this includes everything from radio ads to print ads to billboards to Internet advertising - and as you focus on these areas of advertising, you should make sure you do so with the explicit understanding in mind that you are wanting to make your company stick in the minds of those who see and hear your ads!

In addition to the advertisements you can pay for on the Internet, you can also spread the word about your business online without spending a penny; as you work to promote your business, make sure you are building a strong online presence, through your website, through a blog, through facebook and Twitter, and through anything else you can think of, as this will be a completely free way for you to draw new visitors to your site - and to your company!

And of course, there is word of mouth - the oldest form of advertising of all; always keep in mind the fact that your current customers are your most valuable assets, and as such, you should aim to treat them with the utmost respect - always doing your best to take care of them, and always looking for ways to encourage them to spread the word about your business.

When you spread the word about your business with this approach, you will be able to get the most out of your efforts - and will be able to continually see an increase in the business you are generating!

Advice on Online Marketing Strategies

The challenge of getting found online is a tough one to meet. Constant evolution is a staple of this area of business. Following the advice of an expert is probably the best way for you to begin getting your business found online. Drawing from their internet marketing expertise, Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah have written Inbound Marketing: Get Found Using Google, Social Media, and Blogs. By following their advice your business should have no issues succeeding in the internet environment.

The traditional methods of marketing are better known as outbound marketing methods. This technique involves your pushing your marketing out to your clients. This can be done through commercials, outbound calling, and mailers. Generating business through these methods does not work like it did in the recent past. Tuning out these techniques is becoming easier and easier for a majority of consumers today.

Marketing is moving away from these outbound methods into a different area. The book details the newer techniques that are being used and they are referred to as inbound marketing. The customers come to your marketing willingly instead of you having to bring it to them. A forward method of marketing will no longer be required; you will instead just place your marketing in areas that it can be easily found.

There are many different ways to do this. The most popular place to go is search engines since most consumers use them in order to find products. Blogs are very popular as well since a very specific audience can be targeted. The discussion has recently added social networks and their ability to gather followers of different businesses. The book will go over all these methods in detail.

As consumers change you must change the way you present your business to them. Don’t get left behind using inefficient methods of reaching your clients. Shah and Halligan are two experts who like to share their ideas, so be sure to listen. Learn about inbound marketing by picking up their book soon and reading through it.

Looking At Three SEO Tips You Might Not Have Thought Of

When you are working on search engine optimization within the content of your website, paying attention to all the little things you can do that will help will be one thing that will be important; while most of your competition will be paying attention to the big things, adding these little things to your repertoire of SEO tricks will go a long way in setting your site apart - and bringing you extra traffic as a result.

One thing that you need to realize is your site will probably rank a lot more highly if search engines are "crawling" your site on a regular basis, and it is not very likely that search engines will crawl your site on a regular basis if you are never adding new content; if your site does not "have a reason" to add new content at least three times per week, consider adding a blog section to your site, and update this at least three days a week in order to increase your crawl frequency.

Sharing link juice with yourself is another thing that will help your site; typically, when you think of link juice, you will think of the links you are giving to other sites, and the links they are giving to you, but you can also spread link juice throughout your own site - linking to certain posts or sections throughout your site.

And finally, realize that writing off-site articles, and submitting these articles to article databases, will help you in two ways: firstly, you will create an opportunity to gain new traffic through people clicking on the links in these articles, and secondly, you will increase your search engine ranking through the backlinks these articles create.

Regardless of whether you are running a website in order to promote your business or as a means to hopefully make money on its own, make sure you are always keeping your eyes open for the "little things" your competitors are missing - and take advantage of these as a way to gain an edge in the long run.

Running Your Small Business from a Distance

Small business owners have many problems that they will run into. Most of these are very consistent across the board regardless of the type of business that they own. Hiring trustworthy and hard working staff members is one of the top issues. A large amount of time being spent at their business is the result for many owners who cannot find the quality of staff that their business demands. The result means that they cannot balance their personal life with their work life.

How to Succeed as a Small Business Owner and Still Have a Life is a book that focuses on restoring the work-life balance for over extended business owners. If you cannot enjoy some quality time away from your business then there is no joy in having one that is successful. Your small business should help make your personal life more enjoyable and not to eliminate it. Making sure that your life thrives away from your small business was the reason that Bill Collier wrote this particular book.

Being a major tool of your business is essential for your staff if you hope to be able to run it successfully without needing to be there. A staff that is at the center of a business plan is the focus that Collier presents and develops. Providing values to work by is probably the best way you can make sure your staff is successful. If you run your business by a strong set of values you will be able to help guide your employees without actually being with them. The ultimate goal of small business owners should be here.

Centering around goals, Collier writes 20 chapters in this book. The guidance that he provides focuses on a process of creating goals for your business, making a plan around them, and then carrying out the plan you create. Laying out this three step process is meant to provide you with a base for your business. Success will be determined by how well you can run this business without the absolute necessity of your attendance. After some time you won't be constantly worrying when you are away from it.

Tips For Opening A Store On eBay

Stories seem to crop up all the time about someone who someone knows who is making thousands of dollars each month just by selling items on eBay, and these stories make it seem like making money on eBay is the easiest thing in the world; if you have ever tried to start a store of your own on eBay, however, you have probably found that it is a bit more complicated than these stories make it out to be - and that you need to gather a few more tips before you will be able to meet with success.

One mistake that a lot of people make is that they open up a store on eBay and only have a few items to sell; if you are simply wanting to unload a few items from your garage or attic, you can do this with a regular seller account, but if you are wanting to open and eBay store and make some serious cash, you will want to make sure you have a full inventory ready before you set up your store, realizing that the more items you have, the longer people will stick around to browse through your store, and the longer they stick around to browse, the more likely they are to bookmark your store and to tell others about it.

Discouragement also tends to set in when someone's store does not take off right away, and because of this, they do not pay as much attention as they should to the few sales that are being made; your early sales will be extremely important to your long-term success, as you will need to get a few positive reviews before you can start making more sales. For those first few sales, get in the habit of paying close attention to the sale - making sure the product is in good shape, shipping it out quickly, and even including a note to the person, thanking them for their purchase - as this will ensure some ever-important positive ratings early on, and this will put you in the mindset of always taking good care of your customers as your eBay store starts to expand and business picks up.

And once these positive ratings roll in, it will be time for you to expand: get people to mention your store on twitter and facebook, ask people to mention it on their blog, and talk it up in person - and soon, you will be one of those success stories others are hearing about!

Tips For Hiring Great Freelancers

If you run a business of your own, you probably put a great deal of emphasis on the importance of hiring the "right" employees, but you will also reach a point when you need to hire consultants or freelancers for projects (sometimes small projects, sometimes large), and it can be difficult to know if you are following the right steps to hire good workers. If you are running a business - regardless of whether it is a small business or a large business - here are a few tips you can follow in your efforts to put the best people possible on the assignments you have.

Have patience: When you have a freelance project that needs to be completed, the temptation can be to post an ad on a job site and to hire someone from the first few freelancers who respond. Realize, however, that your project is important; if you give it enough time, you will likely receive hundreds of inquiries regarding the job you have posted, and even though it will feel nice to "get it over with" and hire someone right away, it will be much better in the long run if you take the time to make sure you are putting the project in good hands.

Look at the resumes: Any good freelancer will also have a freelance resume that they can send; unless you are unable to pay for an experienced freelancer, you should make sure you take the time to look over these resumes, hanging onto those who have plenty of experience and success in their work.

Ask for samples: A great way to narrow down the "applicants" for a freelance job is to ask for samples of their work, but an even better way (perhaps the best way of all) is to ask them to do a small test assignment for you. When you take this final step, you will be able to truly discern which of the qualified applicants are the right applicants for you, and for the job in question.

Is A Business Degree Right For Me?

If you will soon be heading off to college - or if you are already in college and are trying to decide what you want to major in - one of the degrees that will probably stand out to you as a 'good, solid choice' is a business degree. After all, 'business' covers so many areas, and even if you do not know what you want to do after college, a business degree has a pretty good ahnce of helping you get there - right?

Actually, as it turns out, as business degree might not be as valuable as it once was - and here is why.

Over the years, Business has grown into the major that students tend to choose when they do not quite know what they would like to do after school, and in addition to there already being lots of people interested in business, this creates a situation where large numbers of students are in every single class. Because the professors who teach these classes teach several classes each week - and because all of these classes have a large number of students - these professors are unlikely to hand out any "writing" assignments that are terribly difficult; which has been proven lately to be a mistake, as companies are looking to hire employees who know how to write!

A business degree can still be a valuable thing to have if you are truly interested in business - but you should seriously consider pairing your business degree with a degree in another area of study that will require you to do a lot of writing in order to obtain a degree. Even though such majors as English, History, or Philosophy have long been seen as degrees that do not have much practical application in "the real world," the starting income for those who have such degrees is actually higher these days than for those with business degrees - so you should keep this statistic in mind when it comes time for you to select your major!
