Tips For Writing A Winning Job Resume
Your job resume will be the first part of you that a prospective employer will ever see. With the economy and unemployment being what they are these days, you will find yourself competing against plenty of applicants when searching for a job. This stiff competition makes it important for you to understand how to make your job resume stand out. The method of "listing your previous jobs and hoping for the best" used to work just fine. But in so doing, you will be limiting yourself greatly. Rather than doing this, you need to learn how to write a resume that stands out - one that causes a prospective employer to feel like they have to give you a call. One of the most important elements of your resume is its design. Although this might seem like an odd starting point for your resume (after all, it's not as if you are applying to be a document designer), you will understand if you consider the prospective employer's perspective. More than likely, they have been at their desk for what seems like ages, poring over a stack of resumes. According to studies, each resume gets about 15-20 seconds of attention the first time through the pile. You will not make tired eyes feel kind toward you if you fill the resume with small font and big, blockish paragraphs. Instead, you should aim to design your resume in such a way that it sports clear headings and lots of white space. You might even encourage the tired eyes to spend more than 15-20 seconds on their first glance at your resume if you make it inviting and relaxing for them! The next step for setting you apart from other applicants is the section where you list your accomplishments and qualifications. Dig deep, and uncover things that you might not have thought of immediately; never fabricate this section, but certainly take your time to remember as much as you can. If anything seems as though it might be useful to them in making a decision (especially a decision that will lead them closer to you), include it! Finally, your list of qualifications will be among the most important selling points of your resume. This is where you set yourself head and shoulders above your competition. Think of this section as an advertisement, where you tell the prospective employer all the reasons why they should "buy" you. While job searching in these uncertain times can be frightening, it can become a lot easier when you follow these steps and write a winning job resume.
